An Introduction to Photo Editing with PhotoLine

PhotoLine’s unsharp masking size parameter

Published tutorials on unsharp masking typically include recommendations for the blur radius that start at 0.6 px and work their way up. The size parameter of PhotoLine’s unsharp masking filter does not correspond to the blur radius of the photo editing applications on which such tutorials are usually based. Below is a comparison of three such blur radii and the equivalent PhotoLine size parameter. The latter is about three times the former.

A Gaussian blur was applied to a sharp white-black boundary, then sections of the boundary were sharpened using the radii and sizes indicated. The latter were adjusted until the values of the pixels matched the former. Amount was 100%, threshold was 0. The images are enlarged 800% for clarity.
